During his high school days Brohm set the nation on fire with his gaudy passing numbers. For his career, Brohm threw for , yards and touchdowns. To go along with these individual statistics he also led his high school, Trinity, to the state title in , , and . While a junior in high school Brohm was starting to get national attention for his accolades on the football field. It was that year that he got his first taste of the big time when he was featured on the front of Sports Illustrated. As a senior, Brohm was named Mr. Football in the state of Kentucky, and also Gatorade player of the year; these are two top notch achievements.

In January Brohm announced his decision to play college football at the University of Louisville. He had many offers from high level schools such as Notre Dame, Alabama, and Tennessee to name a few. Even though Brohm did not start a game as a freshman, he still performed well enough to win freshman of the year honors in the Conference USA. Just like his father and brother before him, Brohm finally became a full-time starter at Louisville during the season.
