A flute is held out sideways from the mouth at an angle. While most of them are set up for right handed people, there are also flutes for left handed people so that they can easily access all of the keys just the same. If you are right handed you will have more selection though as only a few manufacturers have models available for left handed individuals. Having the right type of flute for your hands is going to really affect if you are able to play it or not.

The flute is commonly considered to be an instrument played by women. However, there are some men that also play them on occasion. Flutes may be found in the local band or in the elaborate symphonies and orchestras. There are some amazing jobs for those that pursue music professionally. There are also special types of flutes that are made for professionals. They are made from better materials so the can offer an unbelievable sound. The flute does offer a very lovely sound though so you may decide it is one of the instruments you wish to pursue.

A good flute can last a person for many years though so take your time to choose one. It should be a good fit for the length of your hands as well. Some individuals have customized flutes made but they are very expensive. The best way to ensure your flute plays well though is to clean in on a regular basis. You definitely need to make sure you keep moisture from building up inside of it. At least twice a year you should have the flute oiled by a professional.
