Jellyfish can be found all through the ocean, in lakes and in rivers. There are many types and species of jellyfish to be found in todays waters. Jellyfish are also sometimes called jellies. The sting of some can be deadly, while others can be harmless. A jellyfish can range in different sizes, anywhere from one inch to three feet long, and have been in oceans around the world for millions of years.

They are soft, with soft, spongy bodies, and are made up of % water. Jellyfish are a type of invertebrate that do not have any bones, or even brains. They are not even a fish. They are a relative of both sea anemones and corals. Not only do they have no bones or brains, jellyfish also have no heart, eyes, or ears.

Jellyfish may look like blobs if found dead on the beach. But its not that way in the ocean. They move with style and grace, and use their long tentacles to brush against their prey. These tentacles contain cells within them that are poisonous and stinging. When touching their prey, thousands of stinging cells are released, which causes the stingers and poison to be injected into the victim.

This can also happen to a human, such as when a jellyfish brushes against someones leg. However, whether or not the jellyfish is poisonous will determine the severity of the problem. Only a few jellyfish live in fresh water, as most are found in the seas and oceans. The estimation for the different types of jellyfish is said to be around ,. It may not always be possible to avoid a jellyfish sting. All species and types sting, luckily, not all are poisonous to humans. There are roughly types of jellyfish out of all that can hurt or even kill a human. The best protection is knowledge. Arming yourself with the facts of which jellyfish are poisonous and where they can be found may save you sickness and even death. Those that dont know what to watch for can end up being unpleasantly surprised by them.
