Onions

Onions are a very common ingredient used to cook with. They can be eaten raw such as on hamburgers or cooked and placed on top of a piece of meat. Onions ad a nice flavor to many dishes and if you dont have a fresh one to work with you can also use onion powder or minced onion to add some flavor to just about any dish. One of the drawbacks of real onions though is that they can make your eyes water while you cut them.

There are choppers though that allow you to get the same results without all of the water works. You can also cut them under running water and it will help to offset the effects. This is due to the cells of the enzymes not being able to be released and therefore cause the watering of the eyes. For those that are hosting a dinner party, they want to keep their eyes looking the best that they can.

There are several different types of onions. White and yellow onions are round in shape. Green onions are long and thin. Yet most of it will be thrown away. It is only the white part at the bottom that you will use for eating. All types of onions grow in the grown from bulbs. You may not realize it but an onion is classified as a type of vegetable.

There has been plenty of research done that shows onions can help a person to stay healthy. They are also very low in calories so they can be a delicious treat. Yet many people find it strange to simply eat onions on there own. They definitely love them in various ways though such as dipped in batter and fried to make onion rings.

One of the reasons why individuals may be hesitant to consume onions though is that smell. It can leave their breath with a very powerful smell. For those that have to go back to the office after lunch or that are out on a date it can be embarrassing. Yet if you have the chance to rinse your mouth and to floss after eating onions you wont have that smell lingering. Many restaurants also offer powerful mints that will help keep your breath fresh as well.
