Pointe Shoes

Pointe shoes are designed to allow the dancer to have a full range of motion with their feet. They will need all the support they can get in order to dance so gracefully on their toes as they do. Attempting Pointe without proper shoes is not recommended as it can result in a person injuring themselves. Pointe shoes should always fit very snuggly on the toes, the heel, and on the sides of the feet. There should be no wiggle room at all but they also shouldnt be too tight for the dancer to be completely comfortable.

Pointe shoes are flexible so that the dancer can move as they need to. In many regards, they are similar to a pair of slippers. Pointe shoes are very lightweight and many dancers describe them as feeling like nothing at all on their feet. Some have additional padding in the area of the toes. This can help the dancer to not feel so sore on their toes. It can also prevent bruising if they are just learning the concepts of Pointe.

It is important for the Pointe shoes to always be a good fit. As a dancer outgrows them, they will need to be sized again. It is never a good idea for dancers to share Pointe shoes or to pass them down when they outgrow them. This is due to the design of each persons foot being different. In fact, many people have feet that are difference sizes from each other. A good fit for Pointe shoes will take this into consideration so that each show fits perfectly for each foot.

Almost all Pointe shoes have leather soles on the bottoms. This helps them to remain durable and for holes not to get worn into them from the movements. It also helps to offer some support for the arch of the foot when they dancer isnt in Pointe stance. There is a flat tip at the top of the Pointe shoes known as the platform. If you look closely you will see there are pleats here as well.

It is important to invest in good quality Pointe shoes. They will be durable enough to last until you outgrow them. They will also offer your feet the amount of protection you need.
