Wind Tunnels

Wind Tunnels

Wind tunnels are man made designs that allow them to study the effects of wind. These are very expensive to make yet they allow researchers to find out how wind can be used to the benefits of society. The variables can be determined with the use of a wind tunnel though. This allows the speed of the wind and other things to be controlled and determined. This allows the researchers to find out the different dynamics of how certain materials will react at various wind speeds.

In addition the amount of air that is processed from the upstream can be evaluated and calculated. Air pressure can also be calculated which is often more important than most of us realize. In airplanes there needs to be a certain amount of air pressure in order to keep people comfortable. Too much of it isnt good and not enough can be very dangerous. The pressurization of the cabin is the result of measuring this air pressure need.

There are a couple of different types of wind tunnels out there that can be used. It really depends on the types of experimentation that will be taking place. Many of the developers of aircrafts use wind tunnels to help the design more effective parts for their planes. The result is better quality of products that are also safer for people to be on board.

There have been many advancements in technology due to the use of wind tunnels. Some of them have had to do with the development of turbines. These allow for wind to be converted into energy. The energy it makes is free, allows other types of natural resources to be used in less of a supply, and it doesnt result in any negative effects on the environment. Wind tunnels have also been used for the technology behind building quality airplanes that can handle severe winds and turbulence.

One of the negative aspects of wind tunnels is that they are very expensive to design and to implement. Yet the benefits they can offer are definitely worth the amount of money involved in building them. Due to the cost though you wont find wind tunnels in as many locations as there should be.
